Medical Job Profiles
Physicians
MSF is particularly seeking general practitioners, paediatricians, and infectious disease specialists. Physicians undertake a combination of curative care and teaching/administrative duties, with the balance varying according to the project. Curative care generally takes place in clinic settings and to some degree in field hospitals or existing hospitals. Teaching and administrative responsibilities include supervising and training local medical staff, planning medical programmes, pharmacy management and medical supplies, and reporting on medical activities.
Essential criteria:
· Minimum MBBS
· Minimum of 2 years of professional experience after registration
· Full Medical Council registration
· Managerial and supervisory experience
Surgeons
During conflicts and in their aftermath, surgeons are needed for assignments generally lasting around three months or more. Responsibilities include general surgery, surgical-needs assessment, and training of local staff.
Essential criteria:
· MS in Surgery
· Full Medical council registration
· Ability to perform general surgery including trauma, Orthopaedics and Caesarean sections
· Ability to work with limited resources
· Availability for a minimum period of 8-12 weeks
Anaesthesiologists
During conflicts and their aftermath, anaesthesiologists are needed for assignments generally lasting around three months or more.. Anaesthesiologists need to have solid experience in local and spinal blocks, the ability to work with very limited resources and a willingness to train local staff.
Essential criteria:
· MD in Anaesthesiology
· Current Medical Council registration
· Minimum of 4 years experience in anaesthetics
· Experience in paediatrics, obstetrics and trauma anaesthesia
· Experience in dissociation anaesthesia (i.e. Ketamine)
· Extensive experience in spinal anaesthesia
· Availability for minimum of 8-12 weeks
Obstetricians/Gynaecologists
Obstetricians/Gynaecologists are needed for assignments generally lasting from three to six months or more. They need to have solid experience in medical and surgical complications of pregnancy, the ability to work with very limited resources and a willingness to train local staff.
Essential criteria:
· MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
· Current Medical Council registration
· Minimum of 2 years experience after registration
· Training and supervision experience
Community Health Specialists
During disasters and in crisis situations, health specialists are required who are able to manage and deal with medical emergencies at the community level. They should be able to organize epidemiological studies in various aspects of health and also have ability to train and teach the local staff.
Essential criteria:
· MD in Community Medicine
· Current Medical Council registration
· Minimum of 2 years experience after registration
· Experience in reproductive and child health
Epidemiologist
We are regularly in need of epidemologists for long-term or short-term field support of our projects. Examples of roles include outbreak management to help teams plan appropriate responses type and location, such as active case finding or vaccination or watsan intervention (e.g meningitis, measles or cholera), conducting a mortality survey, evaluation and setting up of surveillance systems, or epidemiological support in a complex project to support evidence based decision making.
Essential criteria:
· Must have a degree or master in epidemiology, or an MPH with extensive epidemiology training
· Proven practical skills in design / implementation / evaluation of quantitative and qualitative epidemiological research menthods
· Ability to design and implement surveillance and other data collection systems for disease and outbreak monitoring, including mortality and nutritional surveys, and to train others in appropriate data collection and analysis
· Proven pratical skills with software for epidemiological database and statistical analysis (Microsoft Excel and at least one statistical program)
· Ability to be a team leader i.e supevising, managing and training others
