Humanitarian crises – treating people with epidemic/endemic diseases and those excluded from healthcare

Ebola, one of the world’s deadliest diseases, is a highly infectious virus that can kill up to 90 percent of the people who catch it, causing terror among infected communities. Since the Ebola outbreak in West Africa was officially declared on 22 March in Guinea, it has claimed close to 4500 lives. The outbreak is the largest ever, and is now raging unabated. Three countries are currently affected: Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. MSF has been at the forefront of the response to the outbreak since March. Read more

Natural disasters – helping people in the aftermath of natural catastrophes

 

Last week, MSF  organised  information desks to promote a better understanding of the effects of floods on mental health in Srinagar, following the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir.  Counselling sessions were organised at University of Kashmir and Skims Soura which enabled MSF to reach out to people affected by the floods. MSF has been a constant presence in the area since 2001, providing mental health care through counselling services in Kashmir to those affected by the ongoing low intensity conflict. When the news of the floods broke, MSF’s team in Delhi tried to get in touch with the team on ground but communication remained a challenge.
