As the second wave of COVID-19 hit India in March 2021, MSF teams initiated the emergency medical response. We sent doctors and nurses to work in Mumbai and adapted regular medical projects to support patients receiving care for HIV, tuberculosis, sexual and gender-based violence and mental health counselling while the country was locked down and hospitals were overwhelmed.
Considering a relatively small presence in India, our teams started looking to see where they could meet health needs outside of Delhi and Mumbai. In June 2021, MSF launched a COVID-19 emergency response in Imphal, Manipur aimed to assist those not able to access healthcare facilities due to cost, distance, stigma, and other barriers. Take a look into how we worked to tackle COVID-19 in Manipur. |

Climate change: A healthcare disaster |
|
Across various countries where we work, MSF teams are witnessing the consequences and magnified impacts that climate change can have on extremely vulnerable people. In 2021 Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change report, MSF medical humanitarians share their experiences with how climate change has likely exacerbated health and humanitarian crises.
