MSF India Newsletter
September 2021

MSF doctors and nurses are often seen treating physical ailments. But for people who have lived through terrible events and difficult health conditions, the psychological consequences can be severe.

Today, mental healthcare is considered as an integral part of most of our treatment and medical activities. For more than 20 years, we have been providing care for patients’ mental health to help cope with experiences ranging from sexual and gender-based violence to stigma related to COVID-19. To mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October, we bring you a snapshot of how our teams help heal these wounds.
My abortion story
Abortion is a common experience — yet many people who have abortions face harmful stereotypes, blame, and social stigma. On International Safe Abortion Day, we’re amplifying the voices of people who have had abortions in the countries where we work. We hear from women all over the world—from Colombia to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Greece to India—including students, midwives, and people with and without children.
