Noma in Nigeria:
Treating patients with astounding resilience
Hafiz Muhammed, a plastic surgeon from Kerala, wanted to use his skills to help MSF. During his first assignment with MSF in Nigeria, he came across Noma, an overlooked but dangerous disease that can leave often-young patients disfigured. Here is what happened when we sent him to a project in Nigeria to provide life-changing reconstructive surgery to Noma patients.

Nearly one year ago, Gilead promised to lower prices for its life-saving drug for people living with Cryptococcal Meningitis, an HIV-related infection in 116 countries. However, it has failed to deliver on promises. It is unacceptable that people are still dying because the tools to prevent, treat and cure Cryptococcal Meningitis are not available where people who have this infection live.
